  1. lollerderby says:

You can actually SEE her foot screaming in pain

    • Mynnia says:

I think…that is well…that you can actually see for once what that pose does.

And yet, it’s friendler for the feet than usual – the toes aren’t squeezed together.

  2. beth!! :) says:

omg yeah!!! i dont know why anyone would wear that…. there is nothing attractive about injuring yourself…

    • Kate says:

Tell that to the Tang Chinese philosophers who thought it was. This is much less painful than actual footbinding.

  3. Bratfink says:

I think you meant ‘edition’ not ‘addition’.

  4. Anna says:

Addition: the act or process of adding or uniting.
    Edition: a version of something
    Big difference.

  5. Mercy says:

Why, would I want to torture my feet like that?

  6. justducke says:

    Just plain stupid!

  7. Misae says:

I take it some of you have NEVER walked on your ties or the balls of your feet? If you’ve worn high heels, you have. These look no more painful than a high heeled shoe.

  8. Mizu_Inari says:

You know what these really remind me of? The viera shoes from FFXII. They all wear something similar to this. [/nerd]

  9. Mynnia says:

I think it’s nice. It’s just like a high heel, only that you can clearly see what your foot has to position itself like and your toes aren’t squeezed together at the point.

  10. picklesrock says:

isnt the point of shoes to like cover ur shoes??

  11. picklesrock says:

    feet*

  12. Jean C says:

Yikes. Well…I guess we should be glad all the bones in her feet weren’t broken to fit and heal into the bound “lotus flower” position, but this doesn’t look like a lot of fun either. At least with high heels you have something to stand on. This would literally require the woman wearing them to walk around on tiptoe, never being able to “stand down”, as it were. Highly uncomfortable.

  13. Jeannie says:

Isn’t your article title a little offensive? What you’re implying is that the Chinese weren’t humane.

    • djtonyb says:

Jeannie – ever seen the results of footbinding? Not humane in the least.

      • vendetta says:

most definitely not. taking a woman who’s normal shoe size is american womens size 7 and making them an american womens size 2 or 3. Not humane at all, but it’s illegal now which is a very good thing.

        • Lady Frampton says:

Hmmm, I’m desperately trying to find a link for an article about crushing and binding feet being humane.
The Chinese did it – how is it offensive? Google is your friend (unless you’re in China, I guess) so perhaps check that before you mount the soap box again.

  14. Annie Crimefighter says:

    Edition*

  15. Annie Crimefighter says:

Is it just me, or is the weirdest thing about these how easily they could come off? I mean, you could be tip-toeing around, minding your own business and that ribbon would untie and the block would fall right off the back of your foot.

  16. Michelle says:

    *edition?

  17. queeniamthebossofyou says:

ya know, this totally defeats the purpose of shoes

  18. Terd says:

This isn’t foot binding, this is just a Western fashion statement. And footbinding does not even originate from “Tang philosophers”.

  19. Melanie says:

it would be painful walking on rocks
