There is a Z-Coil store not far from where I live, and I walk past it all the time. I NEVER see anyone in there, nor have I ever seen a person on the street wearing these ridiculous contraptions. Someone must be buying them, the store has been there for like ten years! What gives?

I have seen at least three people wearing various versions of Z-Coils. The first was a waitress, who said it was the best thing anyone who spends their days on their feet could wear.
I actually see people wearing these where I work on a regular basis…
I have a good friend with severe back and neck problems (scoliosis, post-fracture, several surgeries) and she wears these and swears they really make a difference. I agree they look funny, but hey, whatever works.
do those come in high heels? something for evening wear??
My husband has a pair of z-coils.
A lot of people I know have these. It helps with their knee and back pain. And in all honesty, they’re really not that ugly. The coils are a little odd looking, granted, but the shoe itself is a pretty normal shoe.
I’d rather see these on someone’s feet, knowing that it’s helping their pain, than some ridiculous pair of high heels that are not only ugly, but has no purpose to it’s wearer except for the sake of ‘fashion’
Which is why I wonder why so many people are CROC haters. Are they the prettiest shoe ever? No, but it does help people with painful feet problems/people on their feet all day.
Crocs aren’t even all that spectacularly comfortable, though. I bought a pair for puttering around the yard with, figuring that at the very least they were waterproof, but they just feel like a plastic shoe. Certainly nothing to justify how amazingly ridiculous they look.
I have seen people wearing z-coils, I also have seen advertising in a local ad paper, but I have never seen a STORE of them, they must do mail-order.
they never do mail order
the shoes have to be fitted to your feet/walking style
(I am on my 7th pair in 8 years)
Oh man. If they really would help take away my back pain (debilitating), I will save up and buy a pair.
You better save lots of pennies. These are pricey!
They’re pricey, but they last, and you can replace just the heels if they wear out first. I used to spend $75 every six months on Nike, Hush Puppies, New Balance, and the like; Z-Coils are around $200 but they last me 2 years of daily wear.
Helena Bonham Carter has a pair of these
Go to a casino and look at the dealers feet, about half of them are wearing these. It really helps with the chiropractor bills.
I have a pair of z-coils. I love them, they are great for hiking or for walking around theme parks all day.
They are hell to get through security at the airport, though. I usually just pack them on checked baggage. My bags always get searched.
There’s an elderly couple in my building who swear by these. They both have a lot of trouble walking, pain from impact and trouble flexing. They put these on everytime they go out for a walk.
Me, I’ve always worried something (like a blackberry vine) would get caught in the coil and I’d fall flat on my face.
I own 3 pairs! Ugly? Yes. Comfortable? OMG! Bought them for plantar fasciitis-I could barely walk. Six months later, no more plantar fasciitis! I still wear them since they are THE most comfortable shoe ever. PP-they don’t sell online since shoe has to be custom fitted to your foot. There are stores in many cities. And yes…you have to be careful of cords, lol.
I wear nothing but z-coils. I’m only 25 years old and I’ve given up on shoe fashion. I actually own this pair so I felt like I had to comment. After you have your spine fused, comfort always outweighs looking good. They’re really expensive but its worth it if you give up frivolous shoe shopping. And yeah…they get stuck in bar stools and you will fall on your face if you’re not careful.
I have two pair. They are awesome! I also has a friend who says that he couldn’t survive 8 hours on his feet without them.
I work with several people who wear them. They are great for someone who stands on concrete floors 8 hours/day. Apparently they are also available with a steel toe safety shoe, because thats mandatory where I work.
The nurses at our local hospital ER swear by Z-coils to get through their day.
Between the Z-Coils and the Sketcher’s Shape-ups the Wal-Mart where I work has almost everyone wearing one or the other to help with back aches, leg pain, etc. I personally don’t like the look of the Z-Coils or the feel of them (tried on a pair at the local store) But the Sketcher’s do work and a friend of mine swears the Z-Coils do
Ive seen a few people with them, they are expensive tho. which may be why more people dont wear them.
I saw someone wearing these… I thought they were like special orthopedic or prosthetic shoes.
I got a pair about a month ago – absolutely SWEAR by them!!! With back problems for 14 years, I’ve never had better shoes!
I’ve seen one person wearing these-it was a parent at my school
My Mom has a pair and absolutely loves them. She’s had them for about 3 or 4 years now.
I work in a doctors office and most of our nurses wear them. They all say there feet don’t hurt anymore. But I still think they are the most butt ugly things i’ve ever seen
I had a pair of these given to me, they are comfy.
I had to take them of to go to court though. the security guard said he had some on himself but the heel was enclosed so no tripping on the springs.
My dad used to wear these all the time before he passed away. He had knee problems and somehow they helped aleve pressure and pain off of his knees so he could walk/work/stand longer. They may not be pretty, but they are helpful and *aleve* pain and not *cause* pain like all the other shoes they showcase on this site.
I’m on my fourth pair of Z-coils and won’t wear anything else. The Mary Janes are my favorites, although I also own sneakers and sandals. I work at a camp every summer and these adjust well to gravel, forest floor, bark chips, grassy fields, and rocky beach terrain. I also made it through two pregnancies without back pain.
My boyfriend wears these while I give him massage
